I'm a junior cs student at a top tier University at India. My internship season started back in July 2022. At that time i wasn't completely prepared with DSA, I did two courses on DSA but hadn't practises problem solving much. I was familar with majority of questions but have practised them during April. Companies came for SWE internship role for this summer.

Resume when the season started:

  • Research Intern at industrial Lab. Work on ML(Intern)
  • SWE intern at Government of India in Full stack devlopement. (Intern)
  • Data Intern on a Research Project (Intern)
  • Operating System designed using assembly language and C (Project)
  • Action Recogintion using Deep Learning (Project)
  • Implemented A*, BFS, DFS and compared them in React (Project)
  • Job Portal- Full Stack Web App (Project)

Got interview at D.E. Shaw. Cleared round 1 coz of great resume and work experience. In round 2, got a little cocky and wasn't able to answer dsa questions where they asked me lru cache and how to create a text editor. Rejected

Got interview at Sprinklr. Got lc hard, totally panicked. Wasn't able to think at all. Although my approach was in right direction i wasn't able to materialize on it. I judt wanted to leave. But they gave me lru cache and told me to implement it. Was doing it, but they said time is less, use c++ stl. I didn't know how to use the stl. Rejected

Got interview at Uber. Cleared round 1, was a lc medium graph question. As had solved that question previously was able to do it. In round 2, it was a maths based question..cp question. I wasn't able to give the optimal answer. (Based on mathematical observation) Rejected

Got interview at Intuit. Was asked 2 questions. Not able to solve the first one, was LC hard. Second one was LC easy..did it. Rejected

I had already solved lot of dsa questions before the season started but haven't practiced problem solving much. During this time i constantly solved striver sheet( comprises 180 interview questions). And now i was confident.

Got interview at Morgan Stanley. Asked to implement a decision tree coz that was on my projects. I wasn't able to. Gave around 8-10 back to back answers on DSA but didn't matter as i didn't implement dt. Rejected

Got interview at Siemens. I didn't want to apply, but only applied, as i didn't got a single interview for past 20 companies. I didn't want to get selected so deliberately answered wrong. Knew 90% of the answers. Rejected

This time i got selected for an international research internship. And the season ended. It's around December. Also cracked an international hackathon with top 10 rank.

I tried a lot of off campus opportunities but got very less opportunities, partially due to my fault as i applied less.

Got interview at Trexquant. Answered quant questions okayish. Wasn't able to think answer for ML question. Code assignment was very poor. Rejected

March starts, and i go hardcore in applying and get.

Got interview at Coinbase. The hr told me to write production code. For that i wrote a 100 line code. Solved first question. Explained second question, wrote 90% of the next question. Rejected. First was lc easy and other lc medium. The next question can be more than 2000+ on codeforces if the optimal answer was needed. He was okay with brute.

Got interview at Microsoft Research for Research Internship. Solved LC hard with brute optimal. Messed up as i by mistake wrote the wrong answer when explaining the brute. Got 2 question on my projects. He concluded i don't have the experience and fundamentals he needed. Rejected

Got at interview at Applied Scientist Internship for Amazon. Got lc medium with lot of optimisations that he needed. Did all. Then asked another question, he was quite happy with my performance already on first. But i solved the next question too. And wrote the code.
Got ML round with the hiring manager. The round was for 1 hour. But my performance was so bad he ended in 30 mins. Was asked 4 questions, based on my projects. Was only able to answer 2. Response awaited but i know, I'll be rejected.

I was rejected for all the companies I ever gave the interview for. I have my placement season coming, where companies come for new grad full time roles. Although i have improved my problem solving. It's not perfect as i was also packed with research, ML, applying to get interviews. I can now solve 2 questions in codeforces div 2 and 4 in codeforces div 3. At leetcode, i can solve starting three questions. I would be also leaving for abroad for my internship, so what should i focus on for cracking the interviews. Any advice would be appreciated.

Edit 1- Rejected from Amazon AS Intern. Got a 6 month cooldown too. :(
